Genesis 32:13-21, “Helping God to Save Me”

 

Jacob is at a major turning point in his life. This is easy for us to say because we know the rest of the story. From Jacob’s perspective, his life is ending as soon as his brother arrives. Last week we saw Jacob cry out to God for help. He is a man of faith. But just like you and me, while in the midst of exercising trust, he now reverts to his own resources to help God out a bit. Yes, transformation is a wonderful process, at least from God’s perspective, but it is also painful, dotted with indecision and messy.
