“Waking Up”

Genesis 28:10-16

The default belief regarding Christian growth is that if one does the right things over a given time, growth happens. The natural image created in our heads is that growth is linear, meaning a gradual ascent over time. I’m not against this whole idea, but I’m not sure it’s all that neat and tidy. I look at my own experience. I can count on one hand major events that have occurred which have dramatically influenced who I have become as a human being. It was not about gradually “getting it” but rather “it, getting me.” My guess you have a few stories too. So in this regard I have found growth to be much like “waking up.”
