Mixed Messages

Genesis 28:1-5

We have all experienced “mixed messages.” Sometimes on the receiving end we find ourselves walking away from a conversation wondering, “What was that all about?” On the other hand we can each cite a time or two where we have caught our selves mid-sentence, (generally while lecturing a teenager) asking ourselves, “What is it I am trying to say here.” In our story, Isaac is sending his son away from the land of promise while at the same time stating that his son’s destiny is to occupy this same land. Gee dad, how is this going to happen? Lets’ explore this apparent “mixed message” to see what we can discover.
