Genesis 35:9-15 “The Promise”

 

In this text God’s word to Jacob creates flashback connections to Adam as seen in Genesis 1-2. Later these words were expanded as stated to Abraham in Genesis 12, 15, and 22. The Promise was spoken to Isaac in Genesis 26. And finally the Promise was spoken to the younger Jacob at this very place in Genesis 28. In addition this is the second time we see Jacob re-named as Israel. There is a message here. It is within this message that we are able to glimpse God’s intent, or rather, His heart for “all the nations.” Let’s take a look.
