Isaac and the Wells
Genesis 26:12-25
What you have discovered by now is that this journey with Jacob is taking quite some time. Yes indeed! The men at the Moot House study have given me a wonderful gift. They have given me the freedom to move through the text at my own pace. It’s been like this for almost 20 years. You see, I’m not about conquering the story so we can move on to the next one. While we are here I want us to be fully here, in this story, to hear what God may be saying at this time and place.
My method, which I just stumbled into years ago, is to prayerfully read the text, chewing, meditating whatever you would like to call it. I do this weekly seeking correlation to what life is teaching me right now. I’m intentional to apply sound Bible study practices which is to say, I’m interested only in what the text is saying rather than what I would like for it to say. I’m careful to consult other tools just to make sure I’m not too far off track. I’m then privileged every Wednesday morning to meet with other men and to share with them what I have learned. Yes, this is a wonderful privilege. I’m very grateful.
So having said all this, for the next few weeks we are going to slow down even a bit more. I’d like for us to take a close look at this very interesting story of Isaac and the wells. Thanks for your patience and for being part of this adventure.
