Passage to Manhood Packing List

The Rocky Mountains are a wondrous beauty to behold, but the weather can be unpredictable due to the altitude (just above 7,500 feet above sea level). You will need to bring clothing and gear for a variety of conditions and activities.

  • comfortable jeans and/or lightweight breathable pants
  • shorts
  • t-shirts — 100% synthetic works best
  • socks — we suggest wool or synthetic that properly fit your footwear
  • layered clothing (e.g. long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, fleece jacket, windbreaker/raincoat) — lightweight synthetic breathable materials are best
  • light hiking boots, trail shoes or sturdy sneakers
  • gloves
  • hat for sun protection
  • a nice, white, collared shirt and slacks for manhood ceremony

  • sunscreen — the sun can be very strong at higher altitude
  • lip balm
  • razor
  • comb/brush
  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • prescription medications (if needed); bring extras for emergencies
  • contact lens solution

  • nalgene water bottle or equivalent
  • daypack — lightweight and large enough to carry extra clothes, water and food
  • sun-glasses
  • bandana
  • camera and batteries
